I found it interesting that Secretary Duncan consistently downplayed the role of the federal governance in education reform. Perhaps his remarks were largely influenced by the crowd and the event’s hosts, but he seemed to be genuinely encouraged by the mass adoption of Common Core standards and the authentic commitment of governors and school chiefs alike to make sweeping improvements to their state systems.
